That was my thought. There's some sort of appearance of the Russian national team on Tuesday in Moscow, but I don't know if the player's families will be involved. If not, then we'll see who he takes to the NHL award show next month. If anything new turns up, I'll pass it along.

"Evgeni Malkin Broke Up With His Girlfriend
The famous Russian hockey player, Stanley Cup winner and world champion Evgeni Malkin broke up with his girlfriend, model Oksana Kondakova. Recently, 29-year-old Kondakova seemed about to become the 25-year-old Malkin's wife, and even have a baby.
At least, that's what the tabloids infered from a recent interview with Oksana Kondakova, in which she stated that after "four years of testing," they were ready to build a life together.
However, according to friends of the athlete, Malkin and Kondakova are no longer together. It is unknown whether the split happened before the Ice Hockey World Championship 2012, where he conquered all with his inspired play, or after the tournament.
Perhaps this decision was influenced by Evgeni Malkin's parents, who were against his relationship with Oksana Kondakova. According to them, Kondakova, who when she met Malkin was married to a wealthy businessman, is only interested in money."

Malkin is back in Russia, right?  So who knows we might see "summer vacay" pics like last year?  That's unlike Ovechkin who has been tweeting pictures of him with Maria in Paris (Maria suffered a foot injury in just her first match so she's already out of the tournament).

I don't know about that. The IIHF World Championship is a huge deal in Europe. There were viewing parties set up in town squares throughout Slovakia and Russia and most of the town turned out to attend. There were traffic jams at 1 or 2 in the morning in Moscow because people were partying in the streets. I don't think the US does that even for the Olympics. Maybe if it's a really small town that has a local athlete competing, but most viewing parties here happen in sports bars, not the center of town.

Reply-to: Anonymous (Legend) wrote on Thu, 17 May 2012 21:53:09 GMT: Probably because so many Canadian and US players still in SC playoffs.

Apologies in advance for this long "shop talk totally unrelated to Malkin" post.

I don't belive that because of the Stanley Cup playoffs that was why Canada and the USA were ousted from the Worlds.  They both made a lot of stupid moves and kind of had meltdowns at the end.

Here's why I say that the Stanley Cup Playoffs had no bearing on the Worlds.  The Worlds Preliminary Rounds didn't start until May 4.  On April 27 there were 22 NHL teams to choose players from (8 were still in the playoffs). On May 9 another 3 NHL teams had available players.  That's a total of 25 NHL teams that had American and Canadian players available for the Worlds.  I think that is more than plenty of excellent players to assemble a roster from, no?

Additionally, tons of players were invited to be on either Team Canada or Team USA and they said all no for various reasons.  They don't get paid to go to the Worlds, and I honestly think a lot of NHL players view it as a vacation because the hockey organizations pay to have families and friends come over.  And when  you have your team's captain (Getzlaf) carousing around at 4:00am in the morning with a bunch of other players (Benn, Perry, and who else) I don't know if that's good leadership or what?  Anyway, getting off track here.

It is clear leaving the Worlds this early is not good for either Canada or USA when it comes to Sochi 2014 because this year was the qualifying year for determining the round-robin pools (and practice times).  I am not certain what the issue was that both USA and Canada lost.  Both teams did very well up to now.  Canada was number one in its pool to boot.  There's awesome players on both rosters.  Yes, some "superstars" were missing like Kane, Toews, Crosby, etc., but that shouldn't be the reason.

So now with Canada seeded 5 and USA seeded 6 this puts them in separate round-robin pools against whoever wins the gold, silver, and bronze at this year's Worlds.  So instead of playing against "weaker teams" from the start they'll be playing "stronger teams" and could very well be booted early at the 2014 Olympics.

In either case I just find it interesting both the USA and Canada with an all-NHL roster failed and teams that have very few NHL players continued on to the next round.

Reply-to:Damn. I tried. Tsn play of the year is not that big of a deal, but I wanted Geno to win. I guess Ill focus my voting efforts on the cover. Cant wait for the Worlds to get to the semis, maybe therell be more coverage of the Russian games then. So far, so great for Geno!!

He has another play that's still in the running. He'll go against Ennis starting Friday, May 18

Aw, was hoping to see Malkin dancing like Jamie Benn was in that infamous Team Canada video (where Captain Getzlaf caused a ruckus at 4:00 in the morning).

MALKIN: I would go on the ice is not to fight with FRANZENOM ..
- Eugene, the Swedes have provoked much ...
- I do not think that just me. Each encounter was a provocation on the part of two teams. But this game. Hockey without such moments do not happen. Well, what we endured, great acting in the minority in the end. But it must be less disposed. Skip three goals in the minority - a lot.

- You can say that when Franzen useful to you with his fists, then only you angry?
- It does not say. I did not go out to fight Franzenom, and show a good game. The collision happened optional. I tried to focus just on hockey, not fights. But without this does not happen. All's well that ends well.

- It's your best game of the season?
- Best match of the Russian national team in the tournament - laughing Malkin. - I hope with every game, we'll just have to add. On this victory does not end the tournament. Now we meet with the Czechs. This will be the most important match. We have a chance to win first place in the group.

- What changed after the score was 1-3?
- Practically nothing. We talked in the locker room. Sweden scored all the goals in the majority. Hence, we do not need be removed. And when we played the "5 by 5", then came our washer. The Swedes could not do anything to us in equal compositions. And of course, Simeon Varlamov was brilliant.

- We agree that all provocations "Tre Krunur" only brought Russian team?
- Well, the Swedes did not score again. Zabros they are still a couple of goals, all could have ended sadly. But we have stood for five minutes in the minority. And with fresh forces fled in the attack, scored a quick goal.

- Now everyone will be screaming that Russia - the main favorite. How to treat this?
- We must not read newspapers. And you write less about it!
