Well, if he had requested a trade last off-season and/or asked for a trade during the 2011 season it wouldn't have been so bad. Instead, he let his negative emotions fester. Sure, his walk ratio is very good, but he's a flyball pitcher. And Coors Field sees more home runs per season than any other ballpark. Unless Kevin can learn to throw more strikes he is going to get lit up like a Christmas tree by opposing hitters.

what a horrible trade - the twins sure blew this. if they hadn't bad mouth slowey all last year they could have got someone more than the PTBNL.

But good for Kevin, the Rockies have been wanting him for awhile now, and at least he's going some where he is wanted and wont have to deal with a manager who plays favorites!

Slowey shows up

Righthander Kevin Slowey appeared at Target Field on Wednesday. He recently had laser vision correction surgery and is looking forward to testing his eyes out when he climbs Mount Kilimanjaro in January to raise money for charity. The group he's climbing with includes former Twins pitcher R.A. Dickey.

Since he was at the park, Slowey spoke with Ryan, who called him the day the Twins drafted him in 2005.

Shannon is a very sweet girl.  She's friends with a mutual friend of mine.  I've been out with her a few times and she's pretty hot.  I know they hang out in St. Paul a lot, but as far as I know they are still going strong.

It's official: Kevin Slowey is in the bullpen at least to start the season. Scott Baker got the fifth rotation spot.

Slow Ride would most likely go back into the rotation if one of the other starters is injured, goes on a short leave, gets sent to Rochester, or gets traded. Also, I would not be surprised if the Twins start fielding trade offers for Slow Ride.

Well, I wasn't accurate with the timing, but I was right about the dollar amount.

Kevin Slowey agreed to a 1-year, $2.7 million deal with the Twins, avoiding arbitration.

It's official: Carl Pavano has re-signed with the Twins. This leads to a lot of different scenarios:

1. Kevin Slowey stays in the rotation, Brian Duensing goes back to the bullpen as long relief. Glen Perkins goes back to Rochester to accommodate the move.
2. Slowey goes to the bullpen as long relief.
3. Slowey becomes trade bait for some bullpen arms or another right-handed hitter. Scott Baker and Nick Blackburn could also be targeted for a trade but the Twins would want a lot more for those two than they would for Slowey.

Slow Ride and the Twins exchanged arbitration figures today. The Twins want to give him $2.3 million. Slow Ride wants $3.1 million. I would not be surprised if they can meet at $2.7 million before the day is done.

So with Carl Pavano looking very likely to re-sign with the Twins, someone in the rotation is going to become expendable. Francisco Liriano is staying in the rotation. So is Brian Duensing. Nick Blackburn's locked in for a few more years. Scott Baker had a rather spotty 2010, so did Slow Ride. Unfortunately, Slow Ride was injured more often and didn't last as long into games as the other pitchers did. He's the most likely to either be sent to the bullpen as long relief, or become trade bait to lure in some relief pitchers, bench help, and/or prospects to bolster the minor-league system.

Baker is certainly the more appealing pitcher as far as trades go, but the Twins would expect a lot more for him than they would for Slowey. Also, if Slowey wants to remain a starting pitcher, he may have to be traded if Baker doesn't pack his bags for another team. This is all completely dependent on what Pavano decides. Slow Ride could just accept being a relief pitcher if he would rather stay on the team than be a starter elsewhere. He also would get promoted again if one of the other starters is injured or is shipped out (sent down, DFA'ed, traded, etc.)

I'm ok with that, even though it would be a blow to Kevin. However, he was struggling last season and wasn't even on the post-season roster. With his past injuries, he may have to step down from starter. He can work his way back up, but that way we can keep him.

I was responding about the "single" comment. Single means not married. I know some of the guys have girlfriends, but they are not married, so they are "single".

But of all the guys, single or married, Kevin has the best butt and he has an adorable smile. Just my opinion but I'm standing by it.
