Jon Lester

A question for the Lester fans...did the scouts predict that he'd be this good of a pitcher??  I'm so happy for him!

yes. they did. they said that after his awesome performance in the playoffs last year and after overcoming cancer, he'd step up again like in the playoffs and be great! they were so right! GO LESTER!

Did anyone read my post  :) Any family members close to Jon on here ? We share the same last name and I want an autograph :)

He really is!  I'm a Yanks fan, but I can't help but root for this guy both on & off the field.  I hope he & Farrah have a long & happy marriage.

I'm not trying to trash Farrah, just because I sympathize with Roxy: it's entirely possible to do justice to both girls.  And being the fairminded person that I am, I hate to judge or condemn people I don't know personally -- especially when I don't know the full details of the story.  Most of it is private, and you can't tell for sure whether the stuff posted on this board is entirely true ...

As I've said time and again: love is not a sufficient basis for marriage.  And this maxim can apply as much to the Jon-and-Roxy situation, as to any other (I wasn't thinking specifically of the Jon-and-Farrah case alone).  Perhaps that's how one can philosophize about them: there was a deep and genuine love between Lester and his ex (and that sentimental bond was what led her to devote herself to him during their final days together).  Yet, when all was said and done, he or they didn't really sense that they had a permanent future together.

It's just that perhaps things should have been cleaner for him, in the transition to the new girl in his life.  But how could he help meeting someone else, while still with his ex?  At least he didn't go two-timing indefinitely; he had the decency to give Roxy her freedom.

That being said, sentiment could have held Jon and Roxy together, to the last minute: it's hard to let go at times -- even if a relationship is deteriorating.  After all, you have all those memories -- and genuine love is likely to have developed, if the said relationship was a long-term one.

But as the old cliche goes: love is not a sufficient basis for taking one's commitment to a higher level -- like engagement -- let alone a permanent one like marriage.

I just hope that Farrah truly loves him, and for all the right reasons.  I fear that Jon's story has made him into a creature of pathos -- and some women may be drawn to him sentimentally, for that reason ("poor brave thing ... having suffered cancer").  One of the biggest mistakes to make is confusing pity with love.

Nobody is saying that having cancer makes Jon great or untouchable (does anybody have any delusions that the guy WANTED to be ill?).  Obviously we don't all know him personally -- but those who do attest to his basically nice character.

Of course, the cancer crisis had to have changed him -- and it's been suggested that it was for the worse.  I certainly can't judge, without having known Jon for years.  But if indeed he's a changed person from before his illness, perhaps it's just as well that he's no longer with Roxy.  Compatibility is never an entirely certain thing -- and when you're young, you're that much more likely to change in personality, lifestyles, career developments, etc.  Better to breakup before a potentitally disastrous marriage, than to divorce afterward.

What does "pounded her" mean, anyway?  And is there evidence that Lester actually slept with anyone before Farrah?  I know he dated Roxy for a long time -- but she seems like too nice a girl to go sleeping around with men before marriage.

Perhaps he broke up with her because she was unwilling to lose her virginity to him?  Or perhaps Roxy found out that Jon -- given his frustrations with her -- was sleeping with other women?  I wonder who, among them, would spill to the public information about his body parts ...

Is there a publicized account of the interview?  I almost feel sorry for these ballplayers' wives and girlfriends.  Given their high visibility, they easily attract attention -- and those with many admirers are that much more surrounded by temptation to cheat.

Of course, they're not all handsome men -- and Jon is hardly what you would call having Adonis-type good looks (certainly not the kind of physical appearance that would land him in the lead role of a romantic movie). 

That being said, he evidently is found to be "cute" by some women.  This, plus his inspirational story (coming back from cancer to pitch the clinching game of the World Series, throwing a no-hitter, and dominating the Yankees), is bound to make him attractive to them.  If nothing else, he's a creature of pathos ...

Let's just hope that he's able to keep his head through all this.
