Cliff lee has never won a single game in his career against the Atlanta Braves, Roy Halladay has lost his only start to the Braves, Oswalt has been injured and missed some of his starts against Atlanta, and Cole Hamels is 1-1. Best of all, Derek Lowe would have no-hit the Philadelphia if he didn't sprain his ankle on the base pads.

Good luck Cliff in Philly. You were not our ticket to a world series title. In fact you were 0-2 with a 6 era. So....we will have to win one without you. At least you didn't pick New York. That is a moral victory in itself. Liked Philly best....LOL

Reply-to:Theres a rumor that Kristen influenced Cliffs decision to return to Philly. She was so horrified by how Yankees fans treated her during the ALCS that she felt no amount of money could change the very bad impression she has of them.

I am not surprised at all, if she had a lot to do with his not signing with the Wankees, I mean the Yankees! She was assaulted in my opinion having beer thrown at her, verbally abused, and being spit on, which is apalling! I just came over to Lee's forum since he's the most talked about player at the moment. I have a cousin in NY and of course he's a Yankees fan. I can honestly say Yankees fans are the most atrocious, miserable, rude, & negative to the core type of  people I've ever been around! I love NYC, but not Yankees fans, and that includes my cousin! I don't blame Lee's wife for not wanting him to sign with them, and he was offered less money by the Phillies. I think that has a lot say about the Lee's and having integrity. Something Yankees fans know nothing about...And reading on the Fan Blog wishing that Cliff Lee's arm gets blown out, or that his plane crashes just validates even more the type of people that Yankees fans are-NEGATIVE TO THE CORE & MISERABLE! Have some common sense and think, use your brain, that your punishment thru Karma may come around the corner and kick you in the face when you wish such ill will towards people you don't even know!!!

On paper the Phillies' rotation looks unstoppable but in the real world it could have its fair share of flaws. Cliff was absolutely lit up by the Giants' offense twice in the World Series. Roy Halladay was humiliated by the Twins in the regular season. Cole Hamels and Roy Oswalt also have their weaknesses.

I remember last off-season a lot of sports journalists saying the Seattle Mariners were going to dominate in the AL West. They were the cellar-dwellers of MLB all season. Now the Phillies are being considered by some to be the Evil Empire of the National League. It will be interesting to see if the Phillies remain a formidable team in the NL or if they collapse and can't find a rhythm like the Mariners.

-To all the Yankee haters-

I'm sure your thrilled with Cliff Lee's decision to be one of those rare jackasses that acually turns down 160 Million plus endorsements, but the idea that the Yankees are going to be bad is ludacris. At the end of the day, you know and I know that the team that you route for is garbage and you don't like the Yankees because they actually win championships as well spend money on their team. Is it their fault that they ahve so much money? No, is it their fault that your team sucks? No, with that being said, Cliff Lee all the luck to you in Philly, and if you were to get hurt or die in the near future, I would not be upset.

P.S. Texas fans, I feel bad for you guys, he really let you down, what a jerk. Good luck next year Texas, I hope to have a rematch against you in the ALCS, and then the winner of that can go on and whup Lee's ass in the World Series. May the best team win.

Here's what the teams offered Cliff:

Yankees: 6 years, $132 million, with $16 million option for a seventh year
Rangers: 6 years, $138 million, with $23 million vesting option
Phillies: 5 years, $120 million, $27.5 million vesting option, $12.5 million buyout, and partial no-trade clause.

I think it's the no-trade clause that finally swayed Cliff back to Philly.
Anonymous (Veteran) wrote on 2010-12-14T11:39:37
Did any of you stop and think that this isn't about money? The Phillies offered Cliff LESS money than the Yankees and Rangers did. This was about what he felt was best for him and his family. He never asked the Phillies to trade him in 2009. In fact, none of the trades that involved him were at his request.

It's very clear that Cliff doesn't hold a grudge against the Phils. And the Phillies realized the mistake they made in trading Cliff to begin with. They didn't think they could afford to keep him at the time, and with Jayson Werth going to the Nationals, the Phillies thought they would give Cliff another chance.

I understand that there are VERY disappointed Rangers fans out there, and I can't blame you. There are also some VERY disappointed Yankees fans, and I can certainly point and laugh at the arrogance they displayed throughout all of this.

1. Cliff Lee was traded to the Indians from the Phillies in 2009.
2. Cliff was traded to the Mariners from the Indians in the 2009-2010 off-season.
3. Cliff was traded to the Rangers from the Mariners in 2010.

He did not asked to be traded at all but just went with the flow of things. Truthfully, he liked Philadelphia better than Seattle, Cleveland, or Arlington and decided what was best for him. The Phillies offered him less money than the Rangers or Yankees did, so it wasn't about the money. He likes Philly, his wife likes Philly, so it just made sense for him to return there when he had a chance to control where he plays.

Bring a world series to the Yankees and you will be just another title, 28 and counting, who cares.  Bring a title to the Rangers and you will be a legend.  Like Curt Schilling in Boston, he is an icon there and will never be forgotten.  Do the right thing, screw New York, bring a championship to Texas.

Cliff..you came duck hunting with my dad and Ben Broussard about 4 years ago, the year before you won the Cy Young.  My dad is not a big MLB fan and had no idea who you were.  The hunt was slow, so he didnt even take a picture.  Now that you have made it big, im sure hunting invitations come all the time.  If you and Ben ever want to come back and hunt you are more than welcome.    FYI..there are memberships to our club for sale if you are looking for premier green-timber mallard hunts.  It would be a short drive from your land you own in Ozan.
